  • Yay! You’re here!

    Just so you know...
    - I love s'mores. With dark chocolate. And perfectly toasted golden marshmallows.
    - Bright, pretty colors make me happy but I dress mostly in neutrals. I'm working on it.
    - Chasing my crazy toddler around is by far more fun than any hobby I once had.
    - I'm kind of a cloth diapering hippie.
    - Browse this site to see some of my latest work and learn more. And many thanks to the amazing Michele Anderson for the images you see here of me!
    - Thanks so much for stopping by!

That space between.

Some days I like to let my mind wander as to what Sophia will be like in a few years. Which parts of her personality will stick around, and in twenty years, what it is that we’ll be laughing at that she’s “always done this, or that

Mostly I’m thankful for all that she’s teaching me. Patience is a huge one. Especially now that tantrums have started, and will most likely stick around for awhile. The girl doesn’t like being told “no” – not that anyone really does, I guess.:)She’s teaching me how to be a mom. Hopefully a good one. But if I ever have the opportunity to go through this insanely fun and wild ride again with another child, I’ll have her to thank for all that I know, and all I’ve already been through.

My favorite part of the day has always been right after sleeping is over. Sophia has always been snuggly. But I know those days are numbered. And the snuggles are harder to come by now. But after sleeping time? That’s when she curls up in the middle of my chest and is completely happy just being there. And that smell – of a sleeping baby just waking up. I never want to forget what is smells like to breath in her hair as she’s curled up sucking her thumb on my chest.

And so now as we’re making our way on this journey from snuggly baby to walking-talking-hysterically funny-sometimes-tantrum-filled toddler, I’ve discovered a second favorite time of the day: dress up.

Somehow, she has discovered the game of “dress up”. No clue where she got this from, but it started with pajamas. She would go to her pajama drawer, conveniently located at the bottom, pull all of them out and wrap them around herself, or put them on her head. It has now progressed to the cabinet that holds all hats, scarves and mittens. Now when I see her headed there, I run to grab my camera. And as she walks over with yet another hat for me to place on top of the two that are already there, I sit and snap away. And think about how in twenty years from now, I’ll be laughing at the dinner table, telling whoever will listen that Sophia always loved dress up.

With her favorite book of the week, “Las Palabras de Pipo y Berta”:

I hope I’ll also be talking about how she’s always loved reading.

SPEAKNAZ - I know we talked about this but seeing it is another thing!! this is so hilarious! What a full personality on your little girl, she is one of a kind! This is such a wonderful time.

kwilson100 - I love this age! I can so relate, glad I'm not the only one who smells hair :) Ava's thing is shoes, the girl loves them! I try to soak up every minute with her and remember her laugh and sweet little voice. Sometimes when they get that face going, even the tantrums can be cute, but I stress "sometimes."

Baby Isidoros! | Scottsdale Newborn Photographer

Amanda and Jerry are super fun and all about their family. And in keeping with Jerry’s Greek heritage, they chose a beautiful Greek name for their baby boy – Isidoros Yiorgos. But you can call him Sid if you’d like. Either way, he’s adorable. And his hair? Just awesome. When I arrived at the house Sid was wide awake and stayed that way for awhile. We were able to get some great family shots and some shots in his incredible nursery.

Before Isidoros was born, Jerry and Amanda didn’t find out what gender their baby was. And if you know me, you know how much I LOVE this, and the big surprise that comes in the delivery room. Anyway, they had a friend paint an amazing gender neutral jungle theme in the baby’s room. And this room ROCKS. Like, a cheetah hanging out above the crib and a glider that looks like a giraffe rocks. I adore everything about it, and I especially appreciated all the details created by other family members. Love is everywhere in this house, and I loved capturing it.

Is there anything sweeter than a dad and his itty bitty baby? Not much.

These are Amanda and Jerry’s baby photos. Amanda is on the left, and Jerry is on the right. While I think Isidoros is a pretty good mix of both of them, I think he looks more like Jerry here (sorry Amanda!:).

My favorite image of the day:

Did I mention he was a fantastic sleeper?

Amanda - Thanks Jenn for doing such an amazing job capturing Sid and our family. You definitely have a knack for this and we can't wait till the next photo shoot!

Sawyer the newborn | Phoenix Newborn Photographer

Technically, this is the third time Sawyer has been featured on the blog. You can see images from his birth here, and when he was still in his mama’s beautiful belly here.

These newest photos were shot when he was just three days old. Once his belly was full and he was asleep, there was no waking that child. He was putty in my hands, and completely fine with whatever position I wanted next. He’s so sweet – Debbie and Brad, thanks for letting me play that day. I am so excited and honored that I get to be there to capture these moments as your family grows. You guys have given me so much in this past year – you have no idea how thankful I am for you!

Rory joined us for a few minutes and I was able to grab a couple photos. But mostly she was far too busy to be hanging out with boring adults:)

This was Sawyer’s favorite pose of the day. Luckily he tolerated me moving his legs back in, but this boy likes to stretch!

When I was in high school, I hated feet. Like, thought they were the grossest things ever. Now, I can’t get enough of them, especially in newborn form! Love you guys.

SPEAKNAZ - Nice shots, I like how organic they feel….not postured or anything, very natural. What a sweet family, I loved the elongated shot of Sawyer -he's got some nice quads already!

Sophia’s World

Never did I think my child would know who Elmo was at the age of 14 months, never mind be completely obsessed with him. I was that parent – the one that didn’t want her kid watching ANY TV until they were at least two, or something like that. And then Sophia became mobile, and active, and it was all I could do to pick up one area of the house before she went off destroying another.

And I discovered the beauty of Sesame Street. Roughly four times a week after breakfast Sophia sits contently and watches PBS while Elmo & friends sing about letters, numbers and eating your vegetables (oh yes, even Cookie Monster eats vegetables now). It’s a magical time of day – I get to enjoy my coffee while de-cluttering and picking up from breakfast. It’s the only television she watches – most other times of the day when she’s awake the TV is off. So I’m ok with it.

However, the side effects are a bit nutty. Everywhere we go, Elmo is there. In pretty much every store, there is an Elmo object for sale. And Sophia points him out to me every. single. time. Never fails. Elmo bath tablets that color the water? check. Elmo toothbrush? check. Elmo sneakers? check. You name it, they stuck Elmo’s face on it.

And somehow, not one but three actual Elmos have found their way into this house. Thankfully only two of them can talk. I’m actually pretty impressed with the marketing team over at Sesame Street – take the two easiest syllables a baby can say, combine them, and voilla – a word they won’t stop saying. Make the character bright red and recognizable anywhere, and you’ve got yourself a cash cow!

Mom look – ELMO!

Wait, you’re not going to take my Elmo, are you?

 Ok good, phew!

SPEAKNAZ - Oh we enjoy our little friend Sophia! She has even taught her bud Ava how to say 'elmo' (course, it isn't too hard :)
Love her pics and her sweet little world!!

the littlest one | phoenix cute couple photographer

He just isn’t so little anymore. Living in Arizona, it isn’t often that I get to see my younger brothers. One random day Pat called me up and told me he and his girlfriend Shayna were coming our way for Thanksgiving. Awesome! We love hosting visitors, and I hadn’t really spent a ton of getting-to-know-you time with Shayna yet. We LOVED having them here. Their visit was right up our alley – they spent time with us, relaxed, did their own thing for a couple of days (which included hiking the Grand Canyon) and spent lots of quality time on the floor playing with Sophia.

Somewhere in there, with Sophia in tow, I managed to drag them up a trail near our house that I wanted to check out at sunset. It’s taken me so long to post these because this impromptu photo session became a Christmas gift in the form of standout prints from Mpix. The light was beautiful, these guys are smokin’, and Pat was making Shayna laugh the entire time.

As much as I love photographing running toddlers and sleepy newborns, this was a NICE change of pace. These guys actually took direction, posed how I wanted, and laughed right on cue. Makes me want to photograph more couples! Can I request to photograph only the happy couples, though? They’re right up there with the non-crying babies, right? hehe.

Watch out Geoff & Rita – you’re next on my hit list when I get back to NH in the fall! That is, unless you make it here, first ; )

Shayna, you’re gorgeous. And sweet. And we love ya.

Pat, you’re pretty dang handsome yourself.

I didn’t post many black and whites because the color of the light was just SO pretty. But I love this one.

I love that there are about four different kinds of cacti in this photo.

Please come back soon. We miss you!
