stories in seven – april 2015 | phoenix documentary photographer

Ok so I know the content of this post is supposed to be SEVEN images. But sometimes – life just happens. And because life happens, this month I’m cheating with only six images. I had all intentions of including seven images. When we did our easter egg dying activity this year, it was during a weekday so it was just me monitoring the six cups of egg dye and the five year old, two year old and four month old. Almost as soon as we started Adeline, my four month old, began getting fussy, and of course it was time for her to eat. So I had a fussy baby on one hip, and my camera slung around my shoulders trying to juggle it all and capture our moments. Have you ever tried an art project of any sort with a two and a half year old? You pretty much have to do it for them. So I’m helping Jack as best I can and it happens – the orange dye goes over. And it was my fault.

Instead of getting frustrated (what can I say – it was a good day!), I wiped it all up (quickly!) and notified the kids we needed to take a short break while I fed the baby. I expected tantrums – but they were awesome and hopped right down to play while they waited.

And then I decided not to pick up my camera for the rest of the egg dying project. Because I wanted to be present with them and not have to worry about my camera and spilling dye and getting frustrated. I’m happy I did. And here are the six images I DID manage to get before the orange dye incident. 🙂
